About us
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Portchester Community School website. I hope that the site will convey some of our ethos and culture and prove to be both informative and easy to use.

We believe that we have a very special identity built around our Performing Arts Specialism, our fully Resourced Provision for the Physically Disabled, our Community provision and our designation as a ‘Rights Respecting School’ (Unicef).

We pride ourselves in recognising the potential of all of our students and providing an educational opportunity and expectation that ensures that our students make very good academic progress. We recognise that we are preparing our young people for life in a complex, competitive and rapidly changing world. This requires that they will need to be highly adaptable, culturally aware, effective learners who have good interpersonal and leadership skills. We believe that our highly committed and skilled staff provide the excellent teaching, guidance and support necessary to prepare our students for exciting and rewarding futures in a fast moving global ‘marketplace’.

We recognise that we can provide significantly greater opportunity and personal security for our students if we work in partnership with parents, outside agencies and other schools locally, further afield in the UK and abroad. To this end we have been developing our Learning Gateway and Virtual Learning Environment to facilitate more effective communication with home and to allow for students to access their work and supporting resources remotely via the internet. This facility will also allow for secure sharing of student specific data with parents.

Our work with partner schools in Birmingham, Stevensbeek in Holland and in the Western Cape and Grahamstown (South Africa), have provided exciting opportunities to broaden the context of the learning opportunities provided, as well as giving students the opportunity to develop an educationally based dialogue and friendship with students from different cultures. This work has been coupled to the ‘Sounds of Steel’ community project and the work of the Youth Centre based at the school. These collaborative ventures have allowed for a significant number of students to be involved in exciting educational visits linked to ‘Rights, Respect and Responsibility’, Music, History and Modern Languages.

Our staff are professionally generous and give their time unstintingly to ensure that the students get wonderful opportunities to extend themselves. We do expect students to subscribe to the caring, inclusive ethos and culture of the school and to engage in the rich programme available to them, working hard and giving of their best to all that they do. We are proud of our students and the achievements of the school. If you wish to find out more about the educational opportunities on offer at Portchester Community School please do get in touch with the school to make an appointment for a visit.
