Gifted and Talented students are well-supported at Portchester Community School. These students are identified by test scores at Key Stage 2 and on entry into Year 7. Other students are identified by their subject teachers as being particularly gifted in that subject. Portchester Community School, like all schools nationally, is required to keep a register of these students.
Gifted and Talented students on the register are regularly monitored by their subject teachers and the Gifted and Talented Co-ordinator, and intervention takes place where necessary with specific targets being set for underperforming students.
There are many opportunities for Gifted and Talented students to expand their horizons. There is a wide range of enrichment / challenge days, competitions and visits to universities. There are after-school clubs such as the Advanced Readers Group. Gifted and Talented students can apply to join the National Young Gifted and Talented Academy which provides a wide range of stimulating opportunities, both online and within colleges and universities. Some of our gifted students attend evening courses at Fareham College to develop their skills to a higher level and achieve a further educational qualification.
