Religious Studies
Religious Studies is an important subject in any school as its aim is to encourage students to explore the reasons why people behave the way they do. We look at our own beliefs, our society’s ideals and the beliefs of other societies in the hope that this will encourage greater understanding and tolerance.
In Year 7 and 8 all students have one hour per week teaching time. We explore concepts/ideas such as community, how we decide a thing is true, justice, rules and then place them in a context/situation such as the life of Gandhi to see how the idea can be applied.
In Year 9 the students follow a programme of investigation into the many concepts of Freedom. These include Martin Luther King Jr., Women’s Rights and Religious freedom of expression.
All Key Stage 4 students study a joint Citizenship and Religious Education course.
